My Approach

Relational, client-centered counselling and mental health support for Children & Youth,
Individuals, Couples, and Families in
Burnaby, British Columbia

I approach my practice from a decolonized, relational, and anti-oppressive framework, grounded in the belief that you are the expert of your own story. Everyone’s journey is different, and so is the support that honours healing along the way. Using a client-centered and co-created approach, I draw from a range of therapeutic modalities, tailoring our work together to fit your unique needs, goals, and pace. Through conversation and connection, we’ll explore your personal strengths, gently weaving in practices that feel most aligned for you. The approaches I use most often reflect this commitment and are chosen based on what aligns best with your experience and therapeutic goals.

Systemic Family Therapy
Systemic Family Therapy focuses on relationships and patterns within the family system rather than individual issues in isolation. It helps families improve communication, resolve conflict, and foster healthier interactions by exploring how each member influences and is influenced by the broader family dynamic.

Expressive Therapies
Expressive therapies provide children with creative, non-verbal ways to process their experiences and emotions. Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) allows children to express themselves through play in a supportive environment, while Sand Tray Therapy uses symbolic play with miniature figures and sand to explore inner worlds and unresolved issues.

Filial Therapy (FT)
Filial Therapy empowers parents and caregivers to become active participants in their child’s therapeutic journey. Through structured play sessions guided by a therapist, caregivers learn skills to strengthen attachment, improve communication, and support emotional regulation in their children.

Emotion Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT)
Emotion Focused Couples Therapy helps couples deepen emotional connection, improve communication, and resolve conflicts by identifying and transforming negative interaction patterns. Rooted in attachment theory, this approach supports partners in expressing vulnerable emotions and building a secure, supportive bond.

Gottman Couples Therapy
Gottman Couples Therapy is an evidence-based approach that helps couples strengthen emotional connection, build friendship and trust, and manage conflict in healthy, constructive ways. By identifying and shifting negative interaction patterns, couples learn to communicate more effectively, deepen intimacy, and develop lasting resilience. The method is practical, structured, and grounded in decades of relationship research.

Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT)
Compassion-Focused Therapy integrates mindfulness and self-compassion to help individuals struggling with shame, self-criticism, or trauma. CFT fosters emotional resilience by strengthening the capacity for self-kindness, empathy, and emotional regulation.

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
SFBT is a goal-oriented, strengths-based approach that helps individuals and families build solutions rather than dwell on problems. By focusing on what’s working and envisioning preferred outcomes, clients are empowered to take practical steps toward meaningful change.

Every ethnicity, gender, sexuality, socio-economic status and spiritual or religious belief is welcome in this space. It is my goal to guide you on your unique healing journey towards wellness. I look forward to witnessing you transform to greater stability and well-being.
